This fall, the Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) at Ohio Wesleyan University is inviting older adults in Delaware County back to campus and community spaces for a new season of discovery.
From October 6 through November 14, the LLI will offer 10 classes taught by volunteer experts, many of them retired Ohio Wesleyan professors. For a flat fee of $75, county residents age 55 and older can register for as many courses as they’d like. Sessions are designed to be non-competitive, welcoming learners of all backgrounds into engaging discussions and hands-on experiences.
A Wide-Ranging Curriculum
The fall lineup blends film, history, literature, technology, and even a touch of the supernatural. Among the highlights:
- Film Noir – Volume 2, held at The Strand Theatre, features screenings of six classics, including “Mildred Pierce” (1945), “White Heat” (1949), and Hitchcock’s “Strangers on a Train” (1951).
- History is All Around Us: Delaware County Stories in Pictures and Prose explores local history through words and images.
- Tuesday LLI Potpourri and Wednesday LLI Potpourri offer single-topic sessions ranging from early American independence to brain health and global birdlife.
- Life on the American Plains – Living in Pioneer America looks at the daily realities of settlers.
- Raise Your Spirits takes learning off-campus with visits to local breweries, wineries, and meaderies.
- Tech Talks tackles everyday technology questions.
- The History of the Book: From Tablets and Scrolls to Manuscripts and Printed Books traces the evolution of written communication.
- Spooky Stories: Classic American Tales of the Supernatural taps into the tradition of American ghost stories.
- Getting to Know You fosters community connections among participants.
Affordable Access to Lifelong Learning
Registration for the fall session opens August 25 and continues through September 26. Thanks to support from SourcePoint, a limited number of $50 scholarships are available, with applications due by September 19.
Participants can register online, by mail, or by phone. Confirmation notices will be sent to all paid registrants, and most courses will be held in-person.
