On Friday, the City of Powell released its plan to reopen City offices and parks to the public.

In creating its Reopening Plan, the City used guidance from the Delaware General Health District and the State of Ohio.

Highlights include the following:

Reopening Timeline

  • Opened May 11 – Community Garden
  • Opened May 15 – Tennis courts in Arbor Ridge Park and pickleball court in Library Court
  • May 29 – Skate Park located in Adventure Park
  • June 15 – The main Municipal Building entrance will reopen to the public. Online service tools are encouraged at www.cityofpowell.us.
  • Closed/Canceled until further notice – Playgrounds, Basketball Courts, Baseball Fields, Soccer Fields, Park Shelters, Public Restrooms, Splash Pad, Parks & Recreation Classes and Camps

City Buildings

Beginning Monday, June 15, the Municipal Building will reopen to the public during regular business hours – 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Safety measures in all locations include:

  • People who are experiencing any coronavirus symptoms must not enter the building and should contact their healthcare provider.
  • All members of the public are strongly advised to wear a mask or face covering when entering the building and interacting with employees.
  • Employees are required to wear masks or face coverings according to state guidelines.
  • Expanded cleaning will be conducted, with all high touch surface areas being cleaned at least twice daily.
  • Plexiglass barriers are installed at public counters.
  • Visitors are asked to use hand sanitizer upon entering the building. Hand sanitizer stations are available.
  • All lobbies will have marked indicators for safe social distancing in public areas.
  • Signage will inform and instruct the public on safety precautions in place at each location.

Building Department

  • Residential inspections in occupied homes (e.g. kitchen, bathroom and basement alterations) will be conducted by remote inspection via Facetime or Google Duo apps. This does not include outdoor project inspections, such as decks, screen porches, pergolas, sheds, patios, pools, etc.
  • Inspections for commercial, multi-family new buildings, and residential new buildings will continue with scheduling occurring online here or by the inspection phone line at 614-802-1200.
  • If you’re dropping off drawings, permit applications or other documents, there will be a drop box near the Municipal Building Main Entrance, 47 Hall Street. Please email or call prior to delivery and let us know what you will be dropping off.
  • If you have items to pick up, there will be a separate pick-up box for that. You will be notified via email with an invoice attached. Items will be bundled with your name on them.
  • Fees may be paid online here once you have received an invoice from the City.

Public Meetings & Events

  • Powell Festival scheduled for Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27 has been postponed.
  • Lolli-Pops! Concert scheduled for June 1 has been canceled.
  • Meetings in the Municipal Building, Powell Police Department or Adventure Park Recreation Facility will be postponed until further notice for non-essential meetings.
  • People who have business with the City are urged to do so by phone or email if possible. We are encouraging individuals to schedule an appointment in advance to speak in person with employees.

Parks & Recreation

  • All Powell Parks & Recreation classes remain canceled.
  • Summer registration has been postponed until further notice. The City will continue to monitor and reevaluate the situation and communicate with families and instructors.
  • Please continue to follow our social media pages for free virtual recreation classes for the whole family.

The plan will continue to be refined as the situation evolves based on health advice and best practice guidelines. Any subsequent decisions and changes in operations will be made according to the changing situation and public health guidelines.
