The location at 9037 Owenfield Drive in Lewis Center, previously occupied by a Wendy’s and Tim Hortons and left vacant for years, has been given a new lease on life. Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, under the ownership of the Cincinnati-based Gilligan Company, has established its newest outlet here. The site, which required demolishing the old building, marks a significant step in rejuvenating the once-abandoned property.

With several successful franchise operations across Ohio and Indiana, Gilligan Company is continuing to broaden its reach. The new Popeyes in Lewis Center follows recent openings in New Albany and near Dublin, showcasing the company’s strategy of growth through geographic and brand diversification. This expansion not only adds to their portfolio but also brings more dining options to the central Ohio region.

Famed for its Louisiana-style cuisine, Popeyes brings its signature crispy fried chicken sandwich to Lewis Center. The sandwich, which quickly became a sensation in 2019, features a buttermilk-battered chicken filet on a brioche bun, topped with pickles and either classic mayonnaise or spicy Cajun sauce. Alongside this star item, the menu also offers various chicken dishes, sides like Cajun fries and biscuits, and both mild and spicy flavor options.

The restaurant’s opening in early May comes shortly after the launch of the large Qamaria Yemeni Coffee on South Old State Road.
