The City of Powell will be holding an event to extend best wishes to its departing Police Chief.

Chief Stephen Hrytzik will be leaving the city after a 32-year career in public safety. Hrytzik has been a dedicated member of the Powell Police Department since 1991. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1995, Lieutenant in 1996, Deputy Chief in 2008, and Chief in 2019.

Though he is leaving Powell, Hrytzik will continue to support local law enforcement. He will be joining the Ohio Department of Public Safety as the Chief of Law Enforcement Accreditation. This position will oversee the development of standards, policies, training, on-site assessments, and outreach for the Office of Criminal Justice Services, through which the Accreditation program is managed.

He graduated with honors from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College Session 22. Hrytzik attended the FBI National Academy (Session 221) and currently serves on the FBI National Academy Associates Board of Directors as the Section IV Representative for the FBI National Academy Associates, Inc.

Hrytzik has been involved in many community service organizations throughout his time with the Powell Police Department. He is vice chair of the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police Advisory Services Committee, board member of the Liberty Township/Powell YMCA, past president of the Delaware County Criminal Justice Association, chair of Delaware County Emergency Management, chair of the Delaware County 911 Board, past president of the Ohio Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates, a member of the Olentangy Rotary, and board member of the Delaware County Department of Job and Family Services.

The City will work to fill the position as soon as possible.
