The Powell Branch Library, located at 460 South Liberty St., will close its doors to the public from October 28 through December 2 to accommodate essential restroom and floor maintenance. The library will resume regular operations on Tuesday, December 3, if repairs are completed on time.

Last Day for Holds

Saturday, October 26 is the last day patrons can pick up holds at the Powell Branch. After that, any unclaimed holds will be returned to the shelves. Patrons are encouraged to update their holds pick-up location to one of the four other Delaware County District Library (DCDL) branches. During the closure, no items can be returned to Powell.

Reasons for Temporary Closure

The maintenance work will focus on all three restrooms in the library—two public and one for staff. Repairs will include plumbing upgrades and floor repairs, as well as leveling a floor slab that has settled over time. Because the work will require access to drains and plumbing behind walls and beneath floors, it is not feasible to keep the building open during this time.

Alternate Services and Locations

The Powell Branch closure is temporary, and DCDL staff members will be relocated to other branches. Patrons can visit any of the following branches for library services:

  • Liberty Branch
  • Orange Branch
  • Delaware Branch
  • Ostrander Branch

Digital resources remain available 24/7 via the DCDL website and apps.
