On November 5, the City of Powell and Powell Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) announced the launch of the “Together Strong, Together Powell ”initiative, which included a Small Business Grant Program in an effort to help local businesses struggling financially as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The city is pleased to announce the program has distributed approximately $228,000 in grants to 31 different local businesses. Businesses span across a wide variety of sectors, including restaurants and retail stores to salons and more.

These businesses will be using the funds to cover a variety of pandemic-related costs, including but not limited to missed rent or mortgage payments, PPE equipment, materials to prepare for cold-weather outdoor dining, and other materials needed to ensure proper social distancing and Ohio Department of Health/CDC safety recommendations.
“This year has been challenging for our community, especially our local businesses,” said City Manager Andrew White. “With the ‘Together Strong, Together Powell’ initiative, we want businesses in our community to know they’re not in this alone, and that the city and residents are here to give them the support they need for all of us to make it to the other side of this pandemic, together.”
“This grant has been instrumental for us as a small, local business to weather the financial deficit the pandemic has hit us with, “ explains Ryan and Nicole Kunk of KSM Sports and Fitness Indoor Facility. “In our case, these dollars allowed us to cover costs of $10,000, and continue to keep our doors open to the community during a really challenging time for all of us.”
