In a display of talent and dedication, students from Delaware Area Career Center (DACC) and Big Walnut FFA achieved remarkable success in the Ohio Novice Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event (CDE) earlier this month.

The nine-member team, composed of students from Big Walnut High School (BWHS) and Big Walnut Middle School (BWMS), navigated multiple levels of intense competition with professionalism and skill. Their journey culminated in a 3rd place finish in the State Finals, solidifying their place among Ohio’s best.

A Path to Success

The team’s accomplishments began with a strong performance at Sub-Districts, where they secured 3rd place, advancing to Districts. There, their hard work paid off with a 2nd place finish, earning them a coveted spot at the State Contest.

At the State level, the team shone brightly, placing 1st in the preliminary round. This victory advanced them to the State Finals, where they competed against the top four teams in Ohio. Their consistent effort and polished presentation resulted in an impressive 3rd-place finish overall.

Understanding the Novice Parliamentary Procedure CDE

The Ohio Novice Parliamentary Procedure CDE is a rigorous competition aimed at ninth-grade students, designed to evaluate their understanding and application of parliamentary law. This event is part of the broader Leadership Development Events (LDEs) organized by FFA to help students cultivate their decision-making, communication, and leadership skills.

Key components of the event include:

  • Written Tests: Participants are assessed on their theoretical knowledge of parliamentary law.
  • Practical Demonstrations: Teams perform live demonstrations of parliamentary abilities, such as debating motions and managing group decision-making processes.
  • Team Dynamics: Success hinges on collaboration, as team members must work seamlessly to conduct orderly and effective meetings.

This competitive platform equips students with skills they will carry into leadership roles in their schools, communities, and careers.

Celebrating Excellence

The success of the DACC and Big Walnut FFA team reflects their hours of preparation, dedication, and ability to excel under pressure. Their performance not only highlights their understanding of parliamentary procedure but also demonstrates their leadership potential and commitment to excellence.

Congratulations to these talented students for representing their schools and community with such distinction. Their achievements serve as an inspiration for future FFA participants.
