Thursday’s statistics release from the Ohio Department of Health revealed an unfortunate trend for Delaware County schools and school districts.
The reported new cases of COVID-19 among students and staff in the last week more than doubled over the previous week’s increase.
A week ago Thursday, 40 new cases were announced, down from 105 the week before. This week, the number of new cases stands at 97, almost reaching the high from two weeks ago.
The following schools and districts reported new cases:
- Big Walnut — 10 students, 2 staff
- Buckeye Valley — 6 students, 3 staff
- DACC — 16 students, 4 staff
- Delaware City — 6 students, 10 staff
- Olentangy — 20 students, 18 staff
- St. Mary — 1 student
- St. Paul — 1 student
These numbers represent 60 students and 37 staff.
Westerville Schools, which has a significant presence in Delaware County, has its numbers reported with Franklin County. This week, there were 23 new student cases and 15 new staff cases reported there.
According to the Department of Health, “A report of COVID-19 should not be interpreted as an indicator that a school district or school isn’t following proper procedures—school cases can be a reflection of the overall situation in the broader community. Families and staff should always feel free to ask questions of the school district or school.”
