Right after the first of the year, and as the school year enters its second phase, thoughts often turn to preparations for the academic year beginning in the fall.

In those districts where transfer is an option, it is the time when parents consider numerous factors in choosing the ideal educational environment for their children.

To that end, Olentangy Local Schools has shared information about the OLS Intradistrict transfer process.

What is an intradistrict transfer?

An intradistrict transfer (IDT) request is a request to attend a different school than the school that a student’s address is currently directed toward. Olentangy Schools offers the IDT process to families annually.

Where do I find the intradistrict transfer form?

The IDT forms for the 2023-24 school year may be found on the Forms page of the district website. Information regarding the availability of the forms was sent to all parents in an email newsletter during the week of January 2.

When may I submit my form and what is the deadline?

Middle and high school forms must be submitted on or about February 6. Elementary forms must be submitted on or about March 24.

Is the transfer awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis?

All forms will be reviewed at the same time. The time of submission does not impact the decision. Decisions will be made by Olentangy’s administrative team based on enrollment projections and staffing needs, keeping in mind we are not interested in any building or grade level being over-capacity after our extensive redistricting effort.

How will I know if my intradistrict transfer request is approved?

Decisions for middle and high school will be emailed to parents late-March. Decisions for elementary school will be emailed to parents before the end of the school year.

If the transfer is granted, what does a parent need to know?

Anyone granted an intradistrict transfer must provide their own transportation for their child to the new school of choice. Additionally, at the high school level, any student athlete will be ineligible to compete in any interscholastic athletic contests for one academic year. High school student athletes may still participate with any teams they would join or make through tryouts. Middle school athletic participation is not impacted.

How long is the transfer valid?

Middle and high school transfers are valid for the duration of the time the student is in middle or high school. Elementary transfers are valid for one year only. At the elementary level a new form must be completed each year.
