This past Thursday, the Ohio Department of Health reported that 596 new cases of COVID-19 were found in Ohio schools since the last update on October 1.

Those new numbers mean that two Delaware County school systems are in the top four statewide in terms of the total number of cases found in students and staff.

To date, Olentangy Local Schools has reported 62 cases — 49 students and 13 staff, giving it the largest number of cumulative COVID cases in Ohio. After two school systems in Franklin County, the fourth highest total is Delaware Christian, which has had 26 students and 3 staff tested positive for COVID-19.

Across the state there have been 1,870 cumulative cases in school settings.

This week, new cases were reported at Buckeye Valley, DACC, Delaware City, and Olentangy Local Schools.

According to the Department of Health, “A report of COVID-19 should not be interpreted as an indicator that a school district or school isn’t following proper procedures—school cases can be a reflection of the overall situation in the broader community. Families and staff should always feel free to ask questions of the school district or school.”
