Sunbury City Council is set to hold a regular meeting on July 19 at 7:30 PM, where a handful of key matters will be discussed. Measures to be considered include:

Renovating City Facilities

One of the most significant items on the agenda is the third reading of Ordinance No. 2023.15. This ordinance proposes the issuance and sale of bonds up to $4,000,000. The funds raised will be used to improve various city facilities, including renovating and equipping the Sunbury Municipal Building and other buildings. The plan also includes site improvements, necessary utility improvements, and the construction of related parking facilities.

Amending 2023 Annual Appropriations

The council will also conduct the second reading of Ordinance No. 2023.01.01, which seeks to amend the 2023 annual appropriations. This amendment could potentially affect the city’s budget and financial planning for the year.

Annexation of Territory

Two ordinances related to the annexation of territory are also up for their second reading. Ordinance No. 2023.16 pertains to the annexation of approximately 84.97 acres of land located in Berkshire Township, Delaware County. The land is owned by the Rogers family and their trusts.

Similarly, Ordinance No. 2023.17 proposes the annexation of about 84.932 acres of land in Berkshire Township, owned by the AEP Ohio Transmission Company, Inc. Both ordinances declare an emergency, indicating the importance and urgency of these matters.

New and Unfinished Business

The council will also discuss new and unfinished business, including a purchase order for the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the recodification of Sunbury Ordinances. An economic development briefing is also on the agenda, which could provide insights into the city’s future economic plans and initiatives.
