October 8 will be more than just another day on the calendar for Big Walnut residents. It marks the return of a cherished local tradition—the 14th Annual Big Nut Strut.
This event isn’t merely a run or walk; it’s a vibrant manifestation of Eagle Pride, bringing together community members to support educational quality and unity across Big Walnut Preschool, Elementary, Intermediate, Middle School, and High School. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just looking to enjoy a casual walk, the event offers both a 5K race and a 1-mile walk, and participation can be either in-person or virtual.
Your Participation Goes Beyond the Finish Line
Taking part in the Big Nut Strut is more than just a physical feat—it’s a commitment to a larger cause. The money raised during this event directly impacts the local schools by supporting their Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTOs). These funds enrich the students’ educational experiences by adding extra resources and programs to the existing curriculum.
“Community involvement is invaluable in enhancing educational quality,” says Jane Doe, a local PTO leader. “The Big Nut Strut has been an incredible asset in achieving this goal.”
Going Cashless and Family Discounts
This year, the event takes a stride towards convenience and safety with a cashless registration system. Participants will need to bring their smartphones and credit cards for any on-the-day registrations. What’s more, families looking to participate can take advantage of attractive group discounts—a family of four can join in for just $80, while a family of eight can do so for $160.
To make sure you don’t miss out on the race day goodies, it’s recommended to register before September 13. This ensures that you receive a race shirt, and each family will get a swag bag containing local treats and offers.

The event kicks off at General Rosecrans Elementary School, where registration and packet pick-up start at 12:30 PM.
