A visit to Otterbein’s galleries this fall can move from painted faces to sculptural forms to an artist’s interpretation of the entire country.
The Westerville university has several exhibitions open to the public, with September and October receptions offering reasons to put a campus visit on the calendar. The shows occupy three locations, making the season an opportunity to explore more than a single gallery.
A September Conversation
“Weight and Witness” pairs Jack Koppert’s oil portraits with Alex Lewis’ ceramic and assemblage sculptures at Fisher Gallery, inside Roush Hall, 27 S. Grove Street. The exhibition continues through September 26. A public reception is scheduled for September 17 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with artist remarks at 4:30 PM, according to Otterbein’s fall exhibition announcement.
Fifty States In Color
At the Frank Museum of Art, 39 S. Vine Street, Robert Freimark’s “Fifty States” screen prints provide an abstract journey across America. Created between 1960 and 1968, the series represents each of the fifty states.
The exhibition runs through December 4, with a public reception October 1 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Meanwhile, Jim Bowling’s “Inside Out” continues through November 4 at Miller Gallery, 33 Collegeview Road. Bowling’s sculptures examine relationships between interior narratives and outward expression. Both shows appear in the museum’s current exhibition listings.
Drawing From Conversation
Fisher Gallery changes direction October 5 with “The Living Art of Generative Scribing,” featuring Berlin-based artist Olaf Baldini. The exhibition explores how listening and drawing can work together. Alongside large paintings and drawings from international projects, the museum says it will include new work arising from conversations at Otterbein and in Central Ohio. It continues through April 15, 2027.
