Deputy Fire Chief Mindy Gabriel was announced as the 2020 City of Westerville Employee of the Year on Thursday at the staff all-virtual Holiday Luncheon and Awards Celebration.

Chief Gabriel was recognized for her work managing emergency medical services throughout the pandemic year.

As shared in a profile of Gabriel on the City website, “Deputy Chief Mindy Gabriel is less than a full year on the job. In Westerville, that is. She’s a 18-year career firefighter/ medic who started in the fire service in Upper Arlington, and joined the Westerville Division of Fire (WFD) to help shape emergency medical services as technology, innovation and health care evolve.”

Other awardees were honored as follows for Excellence in Service in these categories:

  • Sarah Hysell, Information Systems for the Customer Focus Award
  • Jessica Hilts, Administrative Services, for the Initiative Award
  • Tom Hockman, Public Service, for the Work Ethic Award
  • Jeff Ortlieb, Planning & Development, for the Dependability/Accountability Award
  • John Friley, Westerville Electric Division, for the Innovation Awar
  • David Chambers, Parks & Recreation, for the Leadership/Flexibility Award
  • Dustin Bowersock, Westerville Electric Division, for the Special Projects Award

Each of these recipients were nominated by their peers. Congratulations to Chief Gabriel and all honorees for their excellence in service and commitment to the residents of Westerville.
