The music of two popular Disney Channel movies will fill the Alum Creek North Park Amphitheater when Westerville Parks and Recreation Civic Theatre presents Camp Rock: The Musical. Performances are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 28, and Saturday, Aug. 29, at 7:00 PM. The amphitheater is located at 221 W. Main St. in Westerville.

Drawing from both Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, the production brings together familiar songs, energetic performances and a story centered on music, friendship and competition.

An American Sign Language interpreter will be present during the Saturday performance.

Building Community Through Theatre

The production continues the Westerville Parks and Recreation Civic Theatre’s focus on bringing performers of different ages and backgrounds together onstage.

The program has developed into a multigenerational company where participants can build theatrical skills, gain performance experience and work alongside other members of the community. Its productions are designed to give local voices a place onstage while introducing new generations to live theatre.

That work has also earned recognition beyond Westerville. BroadwayWorld.com named the program its Theater of the Year in both 2018 and 2019, with its productions receiving honors for Best Musical, Best Director and Best Choreography. Earlier this year, the program received the Jebby Award for Production of the Year–Musical for CATS. The award went to co-directors Michael Ruehrmund and Katey Munger. It was the program’s first victory in the category and its second nomination since WPRCT began in 2013. Its first nomination came for Mary Poppins in 2019.

Tickets and Performance Details

Tickets are $10 for everyone age 3 and older. Ticket sales opened July 13 through the Westerville Parks and Recreation registration website. Both performances begin at 7:00 PM at the Alum Creek North Park Amphitheater, 221 W. Main St. The ASL-interpreted performance will take place Saturday, Aug. 29.
