The City of Westerville set out on a mission this year.
WIthin the first year of its new Food Waste Composting Program, the city set a goal of composting 10 tons of material.
That goal was met within the first four months.
Through the initiative, citizens can place marked 64 gallon receptacles at designated locations. Funding comes in part from the Community Waste Reduction Grant Program through the Solid Waste Authority of Ohio. Westerville was one of 15 grant recipients in 2020 sharing some $201,000.
According to its website, The Community Waste Reduction Grant is available to support innovative waste reduction and materials diversion programs by providing financial support to help offset the costs of these efforts.
