The City of Westerville has completed renovation and expansion of a former commercial building at 229 Huber Village Boulevard into its new Justice Center.

In a social media post, the City announced that all operation of the new City operations moved into the new facility this past Saturday, October 29. The $17 million building was designed to include all aspects of Police operations.

According to the City, planning for a combined facility for Police and Mayor’s Court operations has been underway for nearly a decade. The concept was planned for a number of reasons, including to unite staff and operations working across the City in multiple buildings and to improve safety with a dedicated Mayor’s Court space.

However, the primary reason a larger facility was needed is due to the Westerville Police department outgrowing its 30-year-old building. The structure provided antiquated space for a shooting range and holding cells as well.

The City purchased the building and land on Huber Village Boulevard in August of 2018.
The move allowed Westerville to take advantage of existing infrastructure, parking, etc. on the site, and to transform the 28,500 square feet commercial building at a reduced cost to taxpayers.

A grand opening is planned for the spring.
