Time to save the date for the Sixth Annual Youth Fishing Derby this June.

On Saturday, June 19 from 9 AM to 1 PM, the Big Walnut Conservation Club, joined by ODNR and the Sportsmen’s Alliance, will welcome dozens of kids anxious to learn the art of fishing.

For many kids, the event provides their first exposure to the sport.

It’s the ideal environment in which to learn –equipment and bait will be provided, and volunteers will be on hand to provide tips and teach techniques on how to catch “a big one.”

The event will take place in the above ground reservoir at the corner of Sedgwick Avenue and Otis Street in Sunbury. The Conservation Club stocks the reservoir with catfish. Instead of a release situation, kids can take their fish home with them after being taught to clean them properly.

Snacks and drink will also be provided by sponsors.

The Youth Fishing Derby is free for participants.
