Next Monday marks a holiday which is routinely celebrated across Delaware County.

This year, traditional Memorial Day events in the city of Powell will include a parade, flag display, and even a free “activity pack” for families with items related to the holiday observance.

The Parade will be held on Monday, May 31, stepping off at 10 AM. After its conclusion, a special ceremony will be held at the Greater Powell Veterans Memorial at 47 Hall Street.

You have a choice of attending the Parade in person or, this year, it can be watched virtually. Safe distancing will be required along the route with guests expected to wear masks. The City of Powell Facebook page will feature a livestream broadcast of the event.

Advanced registration for the parade and ceremony is encouraged here.

The annual Field of Flags display in Village Green Park will again be presented by the Olentangy Rotary Club. Nearly 100 flags honoring fallen heroes will stand in the Park between May 27 and May 31.

Lastly, the new Memorial Day Activity Pack will be available online on the City’s website on Friday, May 27.

A Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 31, will begin at 10 AM at Delaware’s Oak Grove Cemetery, 334 S. Sandusky Street. The ceremony, organized by local Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1095, will include a flag presentation, speeches, the playing of “Taps,” and a rifle and cannon volley.

The group asks attendees to please bring a lawn chair

Citizens are also reminded that City offices are closed May 31. Residential refuse and recycling crews will operate on the “next day” collection schedule for the week, beginning Tuesday, June 1, through Saturday, June 5. Questions concerning the schedule may be directed to the Customer Service Request Line, 740-203-1810.
