In the second decade of the twenty-first century, websites are an important component of how organizations, local governments, and businesses connect to the world. Social media works well for timely notices, but in-depth information sharing requires a means to present important information in an easy-to-find manner.

That clearly was the aim for Delaware City Schools in the recent launch of its brand-new website.

Not only have graphics changed, but so has the way that information is presented. The home page has a set of quick access links including student, parent, and staff portals; a staff directory; a link to lunch menus; and details on school safety.

Also featured our district news features and social media links. The top menu bar provides access to information by schools, as well as on the district, departments, staff resources, and calendars.

The same general format is carried through on individual school pages.

The new site has been in the planning stages for some time, and Superintendent Heidi Kegley including news of the launch in her report during the June 21 Board of Education meeting. It uses Blackboard, which bills itself as a leading “edtech” company that combines a strong background in education with expertise in technology.

The new site has the same URL as the old — https://www.dcs.k12.oh.us.
