Those traveling along West Central Avenue near Lexington Avenue may well have seen some activity this week.

The City of Delaware has initiated the installation of pedestrian crossings at Lexington Boulevard and Chatham Lane. The work includes not only sidewalks, but curb ramps, pedestrian push buttons, traffic signal modifications, and rectangular rapid flashing beacons.

Work is expected to take several weeks to complete and should be finalized before the end of October.

The crossings will provide neighbors safe access to the existing walkway along West Central, and to a soon-to-be-developed primitive path entrance across from Lexington Boulevard that will lead to the Delaware Run. The work is part of a broader effort to deliver on resident requests for more walking options and a more‐connected bike path network.

For questions, please contact the City of Delaware Public Works Department customer service line at 740-203-1810 or email.

The West Central Avenue multi-use path project was completed in July. The City of Delaware constructed the path along the north side of W. Central Ave, between Houk Road and Lexington Blvd.

The work cost $355,000 and it was paid for by park impact fees, instead of income tax. The City charges developers impact fees to pay for costs associated with new growth’s impact on our parks and recreation facilities.
