Special to 1808Delaware

Did you know that on April 8, 2024, Delaware County will be on the path for a total solar eclipse?

In our area, the full eclipse will last about 2 minutes and 30 seconds, starting at 3:11 PM.

A solar eclipse occurs when a portion of the Earth is engulfed in a shadow cast by the Moon which fully or partially blocks sunlight. This occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth are aligned.

This month, a variety of agencies and organizations, including Delaware fire and police, were on a call organized by Delaware County EMA to start planning for the impact this event will have. Because Delaware County is within a one-day drive of about 70% of the country’s population, our area likely will be a destination for people from around the country, and from around the world, who want to view a total solar eclipse.

Only 811 days to go! Read more about the eclipse here.
