The challenging traffic environment in the north part of the Polaris/Gemini area will be made a bit easier to navigate after a just-commenced project is finalized later this year.

According to officials with the City of Columbus and Delaware County, the project will extend Lyra Drive from its current northern terminus to East Powell Road. In a visual context, the new street will go north from between the Cambria and Hilton Home2Suites hotels, cross the small pond, veer east, and hit Powell Road just to the east of/alongside Cliff Springs Trail.

At the intersection, a new roundabout will be constructed. The new extension will open up a third east-west access for traffic visiting businesses on and abutting Lyra Drive.

Improvements will include lighting, drainage, waterline, sanitary, sidewalk, shared use path and landscaping.

Estimated costs for the project are $250,000 for right-of-way acquisition and $3,016,200 for construction. The designer is CT Consultants and the construction contractor is Double Z Construction.

East Powell Road is now closed for the project.
