The City of Delaware offers a variety of services and resources to assists residents with filing their City of Delaware income tax return.

Taxpayers are encouraged to electronically file their return and pay their city income tax using our E-file/E-pay tool. It is free, secure, easy to use, and available 24/7 so it is ready when you are. If you prefer to file a paper return, forms can be printed from this link, or you can pick one up at City Hall, 1 S. Sandusky St.

To E-File your Delaware return:

  1. Go here. You will need the letter that was mailed to you by our office and your 2022 tax documents (W2 forms, Federal Schedules C, E, or F, etc.). Tax documents must be uploaded during E-filing. Pictures of tax documents in PDF format are acceptable.
  2. Click “E-File/E-Pay Here” and follow the steps to register your taxpayer account ID or log in if you’ve previously registered. Your account number (taxpayer account ID) can be found on your letter, along with payments and credits for 2022. If you did not receive a letter with this information contact the tax office at 740-203-1225.
  3. Log in and complete E-Filing your return.Once you have submitted the E-Filed return, a confirmation email will be sent to you. Be sure to save the email as confirmation of your filing.
  4. If you owe tax for 2022, or estimated tax for the first quarter of 2023, you can use the E-File/E-Pay tool to pay by credit card or checking account with no service fee.

To file a paper Delaware return:

If you prefer to file a paper return, forms are located here, or you can pick up a form at City Hall, 1 S. Sandusky St.

To have the City of Delaware complete your return:

This is a free service. If you would like our office to prepare your return for you:

  1. Print and sign a City of Delaware Income Tax form, and be sure to provide both your email address and telephone number. Please note if you have moved in or out of Delaware during the previous year, the date, and your current address.
  2. Place your form in an envelope along with your tax documents (W2 forms, federal schedules, etc.).
  3. Drop the envelope off at City Hall in the red drop box labeled for utility and income tax. Our tax specialists will contact you if there are any questions. Once your return is completed a copy will be mailed to you for your records, along with a letter detailing the balance due, if any.

Please note that if utilizing this service, you must drop off by March 18 for the tax filing deadline of April 18. After March 18, we cannot guarantee your return will be completed in time to determine your tax liability. Tax paid after the April 18 due date is subject to late payment penalty and interest.
