A bit of Korea is making its way to Delaware County.
Chung-Chun Rice Hot Dog, a popular international chain with more than 200 locations across 10 countries, is set to open soon at the mall’s food hall on the Polaris Fahioin Place Mall’s upper level.
The exact date of the grand opening has not been announced yet, but Korean corn dog enthusiasts and food adventurers alike are eagerly anticipating its arrival. This will mark the chain’s first venture into Ohio, adding to its existing three locations in the United States, all of which are currently in California. More locations are also slated to open soon in Maryland and Hawaii.
Korean corn dogs are a novel take on the traditional American corn dog. Unlike their American counterparts, Korean corn dogs can be filled not just with hot dogs, but also blocks of cheese. The batter often features pieces of fried potato, squid ink, ramen chips, and even chicken nuggets. Another distinguishing feature is the use of sweetened rice flour batter instead of cornmeal as a coating for the core ingredients, which can range from hot dogs and fish to mozzarella and rice cakes. Toppings typically include ketchup, mayo, or mustard, and sugar.
The menu at Chung-Chun Rice Hot Dog is a testament to this variety, featuring a selection of options for both meat lovers and vegetarians. Some of the highlights from their menu include the ‘Gamsung’ corn dog which includes beef & chicken sausage, the ‘Half Mozzarella’ corn dog which is half cheese and half beef sausage, the ‘Ramen Chip’ corn dog with beef sausage, and the ‘Squid Ink Cheese’ corn dog again featuring beef sausage. For vegetarians, options include the ‘Whole Mozzarella’, ‘Marble Cheese’, ‘Chocolate’, and ‘Veggie’ corn dogs3.
The arrival of Chung-Chun Rice Hot Dog to Polaris Fashion Place comes at a time when Korean corn dogs are enjoying a surge in popularity. They’ve gained novel culinary prominence over the past year, thanks in part to international chains such as Mochinut and Myungrang Hot Dog, as well as local pop-ups like Sjang, which have helped put Korean corn dogs on people’s radar. A December 2021 Bon Appetit magazine feature even declared it “The Year of the Korean Corn Dog.”
So whether you’re already a fan of Korean corn dogs or just curious about this rising food trend, be sure to stop by Chung-Chun Rice Hot Dog once it opens at Polaris Fashion Place. It’s not just about the corn dogs though, the restaurant will also be offering Korean Fried Chicken, Korean Chicken Burger, and Street Tteokbokki, according to its menu.
