Tuesday, July 11 at 7:30 PM marks a unique opportunity for a captivating journey through the past with the event, “Down Memory Lane: Sunbury 1950-1999: How the Nation and the World Influenced Our Lives”. Hosted by Polly Horn, this event is designed to shed light on the influences of national and international events on daily life in Sunbury.

In 2019, Ms. Horn was asked to speak to American History Classes at Big Walnut High School on this subject, shortly before COVID-19. This presentation ignited thought-provoking discussions and a deeper understanding of shared history.

This is not just a tale from textbooks, but a nostalgic journey for many who lived through these transformative five decades. Attendees will see how Sunbury and Galena evolved, how the roles of women and mothers metamorphosed, how churches and schools expanded, and how recreational activities transitioned.

The event will also delve into how the laws that dictated everyday life changed over the years, and how inventions ingrained themselves into the fabric of homes, altering perceptions of the world, and impacting lives for better or worse.

The journey will also cover individuals, innovations, and historic occurrences that have significantly changed today’s reality. As Ms. Horn noted, “My mother lived with us in her later years. My then adult children would ask what was life like when she was growing up. She would regal them with inventions such as indoor plumbing, electricity, airplanes, etc. and we all found it hard to believe.” Our own Memory Lane is likely filled with similar tales that future generations may find unbelievable.

Attendees are invited to join the visual journey “Down Memory Lane” at the Myers Inn Museum. The museum is located at the southwest corner of the Square in downtown Sunbury. Admission is free.

Should any questions arise, feel free to call 740-965-3583. Please leave a phone number, and the call will be returned.

A nostalgic journey into shared history awaits all who attend.
