The event will kick off in Columbus, where participants will take part in various tourist activities for three days. Highlights include a welcome reception and ceremony at The Ohio Statehouse, showcasing Ohio’s local attractions, unique culture, customs, and special business opportunities.
Following the Columbus activities, participants will travel to eight local host cities, including Columbus, Delaware, Dublin, and Marysville, for a 4-day/3-night homestay program. From September 21-24, they will live with host families, immersing themselves in the local lifestyle and culture. The experience will culminate in a farewell celebration at the Columbus Zoo.
The Importance of Host Families
The host family experience is the heart of the Grassroots Summit. During this time, guests and hosts will create lasting memories in the spirit of genuine “omotenashi” – a Japanese term for hospitality and open-hearted friendship. The connections formed during these few days are expected to foster international understanding and lifelong friendships.
Host families play a crucial role in the success of the summit. They are expected to provide lodging, meals, transportation, and activities for guests during their stay. A designated host family day on Saturday, September 23, 2023, will allow families to plan special activities for their guests. Hosts will also transport the Japanese guests to their hotel in Dublin, OH, on Sunday, September 24.
Special Closing Ceremony
The summit will conclude with a special closing ceremony at the Columbus Zoo on Sunday, September 24. Hosts and participants will receive free passes to enjoy the zoo before the final celebration. This farewell event will be a fitting end to a week of cultural exchange and shared experiences.
