Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) has recently announced its selection of 17 promising students as Education Fellows for the 2023-2024 academic year, and today we shine a special spotlight on two exceptional individuals from Delaware, Gracelynn Hoggat and Julia Ryan. This prestigious program at OWU underscores the university’s commitment to cultivating the next generation of educators, with an emphasis on identifying and nurturing local talent.

Delaware’s Pride: Gracelynn and Julia

The selection of Gracelynn Hoggat and Julia Ryan, both aspiring to study Visual Arts, as part of this elite group recognizes their potential for academic and teaching success. The distinction is a testament to their leadership qualities, high school achievements, and a shared passion for making a difference through education.

As Education Fellows, Hoggat and Ryan will receive an OWU scholarship, a fundamental support in their academic journey. More than financial aid, the fellowship offers mentorship from seasoned Education Fellows and professors, providing an enriched learning environment. Additionally, they will participate in a variety of professional development activities, including educational forums, field trips, and career-focused events.

Ohio Wesleyan’s Diverse Educational Programs

OWU’s Department of Education is known for its wide array of majors and minors. These include Inclusive Elementary Education, Middle Childhood Education, Special Education, and Integrated Science for Teachers, along with minors in Adolescent to Young Adult Education and Multi-Age Education. These programs offer specializations in critical areas like English language arts, social studies, mathematics, world languages, music, visual art, and drama.

A Mark of Quality: Accreditation and Recognition

The department’s commitment to excellence is evident in its accreditations — both state-level by the Ohio Department of Education and nationally by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). This recognition reflects the high standard of education and training offered at OWU. More information about the department and its offerings can be found at OWU’s Department of Education.
