The Delaware Soil and Water Conservation District (DSWCD) is offering high school students an amazing opportunity: a full-ride sponsorship to attend Camp Canopy in 2024! This sponsorship, valued at $400, will cover the entire week-long experience at Camp Muskingum on Leesville Lake in Carroll County. The camp will take place from June 9 to June 14, 2024. It’s open to high school students, from incoming freshmen to graduating seniors in 2024.

Application Requirements and Deadline

To be considered for this sponsorship, students need to complete an application, including responses to essay questions. Applications must be received at the DSWCD office by 5:00 PM on May 10, 2024. What is Camp Canopy?

Camp Canopy is an immersive experience for high school students interested in natural resources. The camp attracts students from across Ohio, eager to learn about forestry, wildlife, and the environment. With 47 forestry and wildlife professionals, students engage in hands-on activities like measuring tree volume, identifying different species, and learning forest and wildlife management techniques.

Leadership Development and Team Building

Camp Canopy also focuses on leadership development and team building. Students participate in activities that foster collaboration, teamwork, and communication skills. These valuable experiences build confidence and encourage leadership, which can be beneficial in any future career.

Scholarships and Networking Opportunities

One of the camp’s highlights is the offering of over $5,000 in college scholarships, thanks to donations from institutions like Ohio State University, Hawken College, and Ohio University. These scholarships are a great incentive for those interested in pursuing further education in forestry and wildlife. The camp also offers networking opportunities, allowing students to connect with peers and professionals in the field.
