Powell City Council recently convened for a work session to delve into the City’s comprehensive five-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), a roadmap for substantial investments aimed at bolstering Powell’s infrastructure, enhancing community amenities, and supporting public safety initiatives. The proposed plan underscores the City’s commitment to strategic growth and development, with a 2025 budget projection of $17.3 million and a cumulative five-year total of $56.7 million.

Strategic Capital Investments in Powell’s Future

The CIP, serving as a blueprint for Powell’s future, encompasses a diverse array of projects. These range from critical infrastructure improvements to the procurement of essential equipment for public safety and municipal operations. Powell City Manager Andrew White emphasized the significance of this planning phase, stating, “This meeting starts the critical part of the City’s planning process that helps us set priorities. We put a lot of work into this CIP, and I’m excited about what’s on the horizon for Powell over the next five years.”

Key Projects in the 2025 Budget

The 2025 segment of the CIP focuses on several pivotal projects poised to shape Powell’s landscape:

  • Adventure Park CSX Tunnel
  • Liberty Road Multi-Use Path
  • North Depot Street Reconstruction
  • Annual Street Maintenance Program
  • Scioto Street Extension
  • Adventure Park Parking Lot Expansion
  • Lechler Building Construction/Enhancement

Aligning With City Council’s 2024-2025 Goals

Powell Mayor Tom Counts highlighted how these CIP projects align with the broader goals set by the City Council for 2024-2025. These objectives focus on several key areas:

  • Maintaining City Infrastructure
  • Enhancing Parks and Recreational Spaces
  • Public Safety
  • Downtown Expansion
  • Business Retention and Growth
  • Operational Efficiency

Public Engagement and Next Steps

As part of the City’s ongoing commitment to transparency and public engagement, another public hearing on the CIP will be held in August. This hearing will offer residents an opportunity to voice their opinions and learn more about the planned projects. Following the hearing, the City Council is expected to vote on the adoption of the CIP.

The Capital Improvement Plan not only outlines a strategic vision for Powell but also reflects the City’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for its residents. With thoughtful planning and community input, these projects aim to support Powell’s continued growth and prosperity over the next five years.
