Civil & Environmental Consultants Inc. (CEC) is making a significant move in the Columbus area, as it prepares to relocate its office from Worthington to Polaris in the spring of 2025. The shift is part of a strategic effort to enhance the work environment for its team of over 70 employees while tapping into the benefits of a mixed-use suburban setting.

A Strategic Location with Employee-Focused Amenities

CEC’s new office will be located at 8800 Lyra Drive, a site chosen for its proximity to Polaris’ renowned amenities. Employees will have convenient access to a variety of restaurants, shopping centers, and outdoor spaces, including a park with a pond and walking path. These surroundings are designed to boost employee satisfaction and support the company’s recruitment and retention efforts.

The shift to Polaris aligns with a growing trend among businesses in the Columbus area: relocating to suburban markets that provide a mix of office space and lifestyle conveniences. The focus is on creating a more attractive work environment that combines professional needs with personal well-being.

Office Upgrades Focused on Well-Being

CEC is investing approximately $2 million in renovations for the new office space, which covers over 22,000 square feet. Key upgrades include:

  • Sit-stand workstations: Ergonomic designs to promote movement and improve employee health.
  • Modern computer monitors: Updated technology for enhanced productivity.
  • Fitness center and locker room: On-site facilities that encourage a healthier work-life balance.

These enhancements reflect CEC’s commitment to creating a premium workspace. The added amenities aim to support staff in maintaining a healthier lifestyle while at work, further contributing to employee retention and recruitment.

Convenient for Clients and Employees Alike

The new Polaris location is not just beneficial for employees; it also serves strategic business purposes. The office is adjacent to the Polaris Hilton, which offers convenience for visiting clients and employees from other locations. This is a notable advantage over CEC’s previous Worthington office, which lacked similar hospitality services nearby. With this move, CEC aims to provide a more accessible and accommodating environment for both internal teams and external partners.

Polaris: An Appealing Suburban Hub for Businesses

CEC’s relocation is part of a broader trend where Columbus-area companies are increasingly favoring suburban markets like Polaris. These areas offer mixed-use components that combine commercial spaces with retail, dining, and recreation facilities, making them more appealing than traditional office parks.

Polaris’ blend of amenities aligns with modern workplace preferences, where convenience, lifestyle options, and work-life balance are highly valued. This shift indicates that Columbus’ suburban office markets, including Polaris, are well-positioned to attract and retain tenants seeking high-quality environments for their teams.
