The warmth of today might make winter seem far away, but in Delaware, Ohio, preparations are already in motion for when the snow inevitably starts to fall. The City of Delaware’s snowplows are getting a colorful makeover, and it’s all thanks to the talented students from Delaware City Schools and Delaware Christian School. ❄️✨

Students Bring Snowplows to Life

This year’s Paint-a-Plow event saw creativity flowing as students from Woodward Elementary, Smith Elementary, Carlisle Elementary, Schultz Elementary, Conger Elementary, and Delaware Christian School came together to decorate the snowplows. Their efforts have transformed ordinary plow blades into eye-catching pieces of community art that reflect the spirit of Delaware. Each snowplow, adorned with vibrant images and cheerful designs, is a testament to the students’ creativity and their anticipation of the winter wonderland to come.

The artwork featured on the plows showcases everything from winter scenes, playful snowmen, and even abstract designs—all adding personality to the plow fleet. This project not only helps bring the community together but also serves a practical purpose: these painted plows will be hitting the streets soon, making winter commutes safer while brightening the snowy landscape.

Show Your Support at First Friday

The freshly painted plows will be on full display during this Friday’s downtown event on Sandusky Street at Main Street Delaware’s monthly “First Friday” celebration. Residents and visitors are encouraged to stop by, admire the creativity, and vote for their favorite design! You can find the City of Delaware table near the plows, where voting will be open throughout the event. Delaware Christian School, last year’s crowd favorite, is looking to defend their title—but with so many fantastic entries this year, it’s anyone’s game.

This friendly competition adds an extra layer of excitement to the Paint-a-Plow program, giving students the chance to represent their school and see their work appreciated by the whole community. It also reminds residents of the teamwork and creativity that keeps Delaware vibrant, even during the coldest months of the year.

The Power of Community Engagement

The Paint-a-Plow program is more than just an art project; it’s a celebration of community spirit. By inviting students and local organizations to decorate snowplow blades, the City of Delaware creates a sense of pride and ownership in the work of keeping the roads safe during winter. It’s a reminder that everyone, from city workers to young students, plays a role in making Delaware a great place to live.

Keeping Tradition Alive

As Delaware readies itself for winter, the Paint-a-Plow program has become a cherished local tradition. It not only beautifies the snow removal equipment but also brings people together across generations. From young students painting their imaginations onto metal canvases to parents and neighbors admiring the work at First Friday, it’s an event that strengthens community bonds.

Winter may be on the way, but the spirit of Delaware is already shining brightly—one snowplow at a time. Take a video sneak peek below!
