Kroger is ramping up its presence in central Ohio, with a new store already open and plans set for a major addition in Powell. The grocery giant announced it will break ground on a sprawling 123,000-square-foot Marketplace at the intersection of Home Road and Sawmill Parkway. Slated for a late 2025 opening, this new Powell location will bring more than just groceries to the area, blending a larger retail experience with general merchandise, apparel, and home goods.

A $35 Million Investment in Local Growth

Kroger’s planned Powell location represents a significant $35 million investment in the growing community. The Marketplace store will be among the largest in the region, designed to meet diverse shopping needs while offering expanded convenience to residents. With its strategic location, the store is poised to attract shoppers from across Powell and neighboring areas, bolstering Kroger’s already substantial footprint in central Ohio.

Steady Investment in the Columbus Division

This new Marketplace aligns with Kroger’s ongoing commitment to central Ohio, where the retailer’s Columbus Division has invested a substantial sum in new stores and upgrades over the past five years. This commitment is evident in improved layouts, upgraded amenities, and more accessible fresh food options across Kroger’s Ohio and West Virginia locations. Over the last five years, these enhancements—totaling $164 million—underscore the company’s dedication to delivering an exceptional shopping experience to its customers.

Benefits for Associates and Community Focus

Kroger’s Columbus Division employs nearly 18,000 associates, who benefit from extensive educational support, with the company offering up to $21,000 in tuition reimbursement over their careers. Whether pursuing a GED or a Ph.D., associates have access to resources that foster career development and growth. This commitment to education is a standout feature in Kroger’s employment model, positioning the company as not just an employer, but as a community partner focused on enhancing workforce skills and opportunities.

Expanding Offerings to Meet Community Needs

The new Powell location, situated at 7525 Guard Well St., will embrace the Marketplace format, a model Kroger uses to offer a one-stop shopping experience. This larger store layout will feature a wider selection of fresh foods and everyday essentials, as well as sections dedicated to apparel, household goods, and specialty items.
