The Delaware City Schools Board of Education has announced plans to auction off a well-known piece of its real estate holdings — the former Board of Education and Administrative Building located at 248 North Washington Street in Delaware.

The property, which spans approximately 1.407 acres and includes all existing improvements, will be available to the highest bidder during a public auction scheduled for Thursday, June 12. The auction will begin at 5:30 PM at the Willis Education Center (74 W. William St.), with registration opening at 4:30 PM that same day.

Details and Conditions of the Auction

The parcel, officially listed as Delaware County Auditor Parcel Number 519-432-02-009-000, holds both historical and administrative significance, having served as the Board’s headquarters in years past.

To participate, bidders must be prepared to offer no less than the minimum bid of $500,000, and the property will be sold strictly “AS IS, WHERE IS.” Only unconditional bids will be considered.

Sale Subject to Board Approval

While the auction will determine the highest bidder, final approval rests with the Board of Education, which will convene immediately following the auction to consider the results. The Board has explicitly reserved the right to reject any and all bids, including those that meet or exceed the minimum price.

If the winning bid is approved, the buyer must complete the transaction no later than June 30.

Prime Location for Redevelopment or Investment

Located just blocks from the heart of downtown Delaware, the former Board of Education site could offer significant potential for redevelopment or adaptive reuse. Its size, proximity to local amenities, and institutional legacy make it a unique opportunity for investors or organizations seeking space in one of Ohio’s most vibrant small cities.
