This summer, Delaware County residents won’t need to travel light-years to visit a galaxy far, far away — just a short drive to Columbus will do. Through September 1, the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) is hosting Unofficial Galaxies, a marquee exhibition that brings one of the largest private Star Wars collections in the world to Ohio’s capital city. It’s an interstellar experience set inside a science museum that’s been voted No. 1 in the nation five times by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

Beyond the Museum Walls: A Citywide Celebration

COSI may be the hub, but the Star Wars celebration is spreading across Columbus thanks to partnerships coordinated by Experience Columbus. The entire city is embracing the sci-fi spirit with themed events, cocktails, family-friendly programs, and more. It’s a rare chance to turn a museum visit into a full weekend getaway.

“With Revenge of the Sith returning to theaters for its 20th anniversary and Andor launching its final season in April, there’s never been a better moment to celebrate Star Wars,” said Sarah Townes, Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer at Experience Columbus. “This is the Columbus Way in action — uniting the community to create unforgettable experiences.”

Stay in the Story

For those ready to fully commit to the Star Wars fantasy, the Junto Hotel — located just steps from COSI — is offering the “Dark Side or Light” hotel package. Guests receive two tickets to the exhibition, themed cocktails at the hotel’s Trade Room bar (where you’re asked to choose your destiny), and additional Star Wars-inspired perks.

From Story Time to Sky High

Families will find even more to enjoy with themed story times and costume parties at Columbus Metropolitan Library branches. Huntington Park will host Star Wars Night at a Columbus Clippers game, complete with character appearances and fireworks that rival a lightsaber duel. For the adventurous, ZipZone Outdoor Adventures will host night flights with an added galactic twist.

Even the city’s dining scene is going full hyperspace. Sip on limited-time drinks like the Maris Magenta cocktail at Stories on High, the Luke Skywalker cocktail at Lincoln Social Rooftop, or the Light Speed Lager at Land-Grant Brewing Company — all inspired by the saga that continues to capture imaginations.

A Closer Look at Unofficial Galaxies

Inside the COSI exhibition, fans can expect to see more than 150 preserved artifacts. From legendary characters to full-scale starships and authentic costumes, the immersive display pays tribute to one of the most influential movie franchises of all time. It’s a visual and emotional journey through generations of storytelling.

Finish the Quest Around Columbus

Extend your sci-fi escape with visits to Columbus’ other immersive experiences. Enter a neon dreamscape at Otherworld, explore quirky collectibles at Big Fun, or build your own adventure at LEGOLAND Discovery Center. Whether you’ve followed the saga since 1977 or are sharing it with young Padawans for the first time, Columbus offers a summer road trip that blends nostalgia, excitement, and discovery.
