A trip from Dublin to downtown Columbus is getting one less complication: the bus transfer.
Beginning Monday, September 7, COTA is extending Line 1 Kenny north from Carriage Place to Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center Outpatient Care Dublin. The extension gives riders along that stretch a direct connection to Ohio State’s campus, the Short North and downtown Columbus, according to the City of Dublin’s announcement. For someone heading to campus, traveling to work or planning an afternoon in the Short North, the practical appeal is straightforward. Board along the extended route and stay on the same bus.
A New Connection Seven Days a Week
Service on the extension between Carriage Place and Outpatient Care Dublin will operate every 30 minutes, seven days a week.
There is an important distinction for anyone reading the new schedules: COTA lists 15-minute service on the main portions of Line 1 Kenny and Line 1 Livingston, but the Dublin extension runs at the 30-minute frequency. Riders should use the schedule for their particular stop when planning a departure. COTA’s September service changes include links to both timetables.
The expansion also changes how the two parts of Line 1 fit together. Kenny serves the north-south connection between Dublin and downtown, while Livingston runs east-west between downtown and the Reynoldsburg Park and Ride. Passengers continuing from one line to the other will need to transfer downtown.
A Different Place to Catch the Bus
September 7 also brings a separate change for riders using Dublin’s Park and Ride, as the pickup location moves to the northwest corner of Dale Drive and Bridge Park Avenue, affecting Line 73 and Zoo Bus passengers. Free parking is available in the Theodore Garage during the transition. The city identifies the garage’s location as Mooney Street, just off Dale Drive. Dublin’s rider notice explains the move.
For regular passengers, that means checking both the route and the boarding location before the next trip. For prospective riders along the new Line 1 extension, it means a fresh option for reaching some of central Ohio’s busiest destinations without arranging a connection along the way.
