Delaware County’s Job & Family Services Department has a new director, and he knows the agency, its staff and the issues its residents face. County Commissioners announced Monday that Jeffrey Sell has been named director of Delaware County Job & Family Services (JFS), replacing Bob Anderson, who left for the Hamilton County Job & Family Services Department in August.

Sell has served with the Delaware County JFS since 2020, and in his most recent position was Protective Services Program Administrator. He served as an interim director of JFS after Anderson’s departure, and will now hold the post permanently.

More Than Two Decades of Experience

A graduate of Bowling Green State University, Sell brings considerable experience in public assistance and human services administration to his new position.

Before joining Delaware County, he spent 21 years with Seneca County Job & Family Services, building a career in a field that touches nearly every aspect of community life, from family stability and child welfare to employment assistance and access to healthcare. His familiarity with Delaware County’s operations was a significant factor in the commissioners’ decision to promote from within.

“We are pleased to have found the right leader for our JFS team right here within our organization,” said Jeff Benton, president of this year’s Board of Commissioners. “We are confident that Jeff Sell, who has been an integral part of this team’s excellence, will continue the record of outstanding service that has been established.”

Serving a County on the Move

Sell assumes leadership of an agency with more than 70 employees and a broad range of responsibilities in one of Ohio’s fastest-growing counties. That growth brings its own challenges. As Delaware County welcomes new residents and families, the need for accessible public services remains an important part of county government.

Job & Family Services helps residents navigate some of life’s most difficult circumstances, including financial hardship, healthcare needs, family responsibilities, and employment challenges. The department connects eligible residents with federal, state, and local resources designed to provide both immediate assistance and opportunities for greater financial independence. Its work can involve helping a family struggling with monthly expenses, assisting someone seeking employment or additional job training, or connecting residents with healthcare and other essential services.

For the commissioners, Sell’s appointment provides continuity at a department whose work directly affects the well-being of county residents. With six years of experience in Delaware County and more than two decades of prior service in Seneca County, the new director begins his tenure with an established understanding of both the agency and the public assistance system it administers.
