Jot down the dates of December 6, 7, and 8 on your calendar and make plans to join your friends downtown as Delaware celebrates the holidays in traditional style.

It’s the annual “Home for the Holidays Weekend,” when the streets come alive with Christmas cheer.

The events begin on Friday with the annual Christmas tree lighting. Also taking place that evening will be hand drawn carriage rides around downtown — just $1 for passengers over the age of 5, performances by local musical groups, and Santa appearing at the Strand Theatre from 7 until 9 PM.

Saturday’s fun focuses on shopping and scavenging. Downtown stores will be open from 11 AM to 6 PM that day; look for cards at participating businesses and get stamps when you make a purchase at each location for a chance to win Chocolate Walk tickets.

From Noon to 2 PM on Saturday, help Santa find Dasher by exploring downtown for clues. A voluntary donation is requested — either a box of cereal or a monetary donation. Mr. Claus will return to the Strand between 1 and 3 PM, with photographs available for just $5.

Sunday brings the annual Home for the Holidays Parade, which will be stepping off at 3 PM from Mingo Park. The parade route heads west on E. Lincoln Avenue, then turns left to walk south on N. Sandusky Street. It continues through the downtown square, where WSYX ABC 6 Journalist Tom Bosco will be the emcee, announcing each parade entry. The parade ends at the corner of S Sandusky Street and Wilmer Street, near the Ohio Wesleyan University campus.
