The Delaware General Health District has been at the forefront of local news over the last couple of months, and for obvious reasons as it leads local efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the meeting of Delaware City Council on Monday night, the Health District will be the focus of two distinct parts of the agenda.

First, a Proclamation will be presented recognizing Delaware General Health District and Health Commissioner Shelia Hiddleson.

Second, the Final Development Plan for the Health District’s proposed new office building and headquarters will come before Council for approval. According to documents submitted to the City, the 30,000 square foot structure will be constructed at 470 South Sandusky Street on the former Leroy Jenkins property.

The 9.4 acre site was most recently home to two structures; the main “Yogi Divine” building was removed in 2014, and a residential structure remains in place. The new headquarters would use the northernmost existing curb cut off of South Sandusky to enter into a 212 space parking lot; the house would remain and be used for storage purposes.

Because of the amount and nature of the trees which would be removed, no additional tree planting would be required under applicable City ordinances.

A submitted Staff Report recommends approval of the Final Development Plan subject to several conditions related to landscaping, a stormwater easement, and other considerations.

Monday’s agenda also includes consideration of two Final Development Plans for new construction at Coughlin’s Crossing and a COVID-19 update from the Fire and Police Departments and the Economic Development Director.

The meeting will be broadcast live on the City of Delaware Facebook Page on Monday, April 27 at 7 PM.
