Ohio employers follow federal guidelines in providing notices before layoffs and furloughs of a significant number of employees. Such Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act (“WARN”) notices are sent to Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

One recent WARN notice was sent by Crescent Hotels & Resorts LLC, owners of the Hilton Columbus Polaris via a letter and attachment sent on May 1.

In its letter, Crescent noted that furloughs of somc 94 employees began on March 21. Because of continued COVID-19-related restrictions subsequently issued by the State of Ohio, it stated that it had become apparent that longer furloughs would be required.

A copy of that notice and attachment can be accessed here.

This is not the only WARN notice filed by a Delaware County company during the pandemic. On April 15, owners of the Renaissance Columbus Westerville provided notice of the temporary layoff of 105 employees. Acoust-a-Fiber had a temporary layoff of 159 pursuant to a April 7 notice, and Benihana Columbus provided a WARN notice on April 6 relating to the termination of 37 employees.
