After a week that saw many businesses impacted by flooding, downtown Delaware was the scene of a good deal of activity on a brilliant and sunny Saturday afternoon.

Our post earlier this week shared information about efforts to assist in the cleanup and in a funding drive for downtown businesses. It can be read here.

Several of the bars and restaurants had activity in outdoor areas, and many downtown retailers were open. The sidewalks were not crowded, but clearly there were a number of people who had come out to shop, eat, drink, and support local businesses.

A graduation robe-dressed statute of President Rutherford B. Hayes stood watch over the activity on the corner of Sandusky and William Streets — something which we strongly suspect will become a tradition. Today was the Delaware Hayes graduation, a unique “drive thru” ceremony, as members of the Class of 2020 donned their caps and gowns and arrived at the high school in vehicles with their families.
