The Friends of the Delaware County District Library came home from a convention earlier this month with an award in their collective back pocket.

At the annual Convention of the Ohio Library Council, this year held at the Kalhari Resort in Sandusky, the local group was recognized with one of the key prizes at the Awards and Honors Luncheon – the Ohio Friends of the Library Recognition Award.[widgets_on_pages id=1]

According to the OLC website, this award “Recognizes a Friends group, regardless of community size, that performs imaginative and effective activities that increase community awareness of its library, support library programs, and promote the mission, vision and core values of the library.”

The Friends of the Delaware County Library is a volunteer organization that exists to advocate, perform community interface, and fundraise for the Library. The non profit hosts book sales at the Library’s locations across the county, hosts events with authors of both adult and children’s books, and and helps the staff increase their professional knowledge.

Programs benefited by Friends funding include parties, book discussions, clubs, and the popular Summer Reading Program.
