The Ohio EPA will hold a virtual public hearing on an application from the Morrow County Commissioners (on behalf of the SoMoCo Wastewater Treatment Plant) for a new wastewater discharge permit with a proposed discharge to Alum Creek.
Alum Creek runs for 58 miles north to south in central Ohio, originating in Morrow County and flowing through Delaware County and finally draining into the Scioto River in Franklin County. It provides drinking water for the city of Westerville.
During the virtual public meeting, which will begin at 6 PM on Wednesday, October 21, the Agency will give a short presentation on the application and answer questions from the public. A hearing will immediately follow, during which the public may submit comments, on the record, about the application. Citizens who want to participate must register in advance of the meeting.
The application proposes to upgrade the existing wastewater treatment facility, remove the land application system currently in use, and discharge to Alum Creek. If approved, the project would replace aging infrastructure and upgrade and expand the existing treatment facility to accommodate potential area development.
Written comments may be submitted during the virtual public hearing, or emailed to John Owen, epa.dswcomments@epa.ohio.gov with the subject line: SoMoCo. All comments received at the virtual hearing or via email by close of business on Oct. 28 will be considered by Ohio EPA prior to final action on this proposal.
