The Delaware County Commissioners met on April 2 with an agenda which included an update from SourcePoint, resolutions, and various community initiatives.
SourcePoint Update: Serving Delaware County’s Older Adults
A key focus of the meeting was SourcePoint, a local organization dedicated to supporting older adults. Their representative shared significant achievements from the previous year and outlined plans for 2024.
SourcePoint served 2,100 individuals through its In-Home Care Program in 2023, an increase from the previous year. They also delivered over 298,000 meals, a substantial uptick from prior years. The report highlighted a 75% reduction in emergency room visits among their in-home care clients, illustrating the positive impact of their services.
The organization’s strategic plan emphasizes expanding outreach and access, with a space study underway to accommodate the growing needs of Delaware County’s senior community. Future initiatives include the second annual retirement-ready drive-thru, a recognition program for in-home care partners, and the expanded use of interpreter services and translation apps to better serve a diverse population.
Commissioners’ Announcements and Upcoming Events
Commissioner Gary Merrell announced the upcoming State of the County event, scheduled at the Columbus Zoo’s African Center. This event aims to bring together community leaders and residents to discuss the county’s progress and future plans. Commissioner Barb Lewis emphasized the ongoing collaboration with Delaware Transit to address transportation challenges, particularly for older adults and those with limited mobility.
Affordable housing for seniors on fixed incomes emerged as a significant concern. Commissioners discussed exploring federal funding to tackle this issue, emphasizing the importance of providing stable housing options for older adults in the county.
Resolutions and Agreements
The meeting also included the passage of several resolutions. These ranged from routine approvals of purchase orders, then-and-now certificates, and payment of warrants to new agreements. A liquor license for WY Mongolian Grill Inc. was approved without objections, and the commissioners set the date and time for viewing and a public hearing for a watershed drainage improvement.
Additionally, the commissioners approved an agreement with UMCH Family Services for child placement and a software license agreement with Right Step Software Corporation for employee scheduling and time and attendance tracking. These agreements reflect the county’s commitment to efficient operations and community partnerships.
