Earlier this week, the Delaware County Board of Commissioners convened for a session that touched on a variety of topics crucial to the community.

Disability Employment Awareness Takes Center Stage

One of the highlights of the meeting was the board’s designation of October 2023 as Disability Employment Awareness Month. This move aligns with national efforts to recognize the contributions of individuals with disabilities in the workforce. Delaware County stands above the national average, with 24% of its adults with disabilities employed in the community. The board expressed its support for the initiative, noting that hiring individuals with disabilities not only adds inclusivity but also fosters empathy in the workplace.

Supplemental Appropriation for Developmental Disabilities

The board approved a supplemental appropriation of $500,000 for the Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities. This additional funding aims to meet Medicaid match obligations for the fourth quarter of 2023. The board acknowledged the increase in Medicaid waiver enrollments and the direct support professional retention payments as contributing factors to the need for extra funding. The resolution was met with appreciation, highlighting the board’s commitment to supporting essential community services.

Infrastructure and Public Works

Several resolutions related to infrastructure were passed during the meeting. Among them was the authorization for the lease of motor vehicles for the building and safety department and the regional sewer district. Additionally, bids were awarded for sewer rehabilitation projects, and applications were submitted for funding assistance to the Ohio Public Works Commission. These moves signal the board’s proactive approach to maintaining and improving the county’s infrastructure.

Community Support and Future Plans

The meeting also saw the approval of various other resolutions, including the selection of charitable agencies for county support and the submission of applications for road improvement grants. These actions reflect the board’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all Delaware County residents.
