From the Office of Delaware County Prosecutor Melissa A. Schiiffel:

Jonathon Myers was sentenced to 25 to 31 1/2 years in prison for attempting to kill civilians and law enforcement on Interstate 71, on March 11, 2022.

“I am so thankful for all of law enforcement who descended upon this chaotic scene to protect all of the human life on the roadway that day.” Prosecutor Schiffel said. “I will continue to vigorously prosecute criminals who bring their gun violence to Delaware County. We don’t want your violence here, and you will be held accountable.”

Myers plead guilty, on October 14, 2022, to three counts of attempted murder for shooting at I-71 SB travelers; four counts of attempted aggravated murder for shooting at law enforcement officers; one count of discharging of a firearm on or near prohibited premises, and felonious assault.

Myers crime spree began in Franklin County when he fired at another motorist after the car he was traveling in crashed into another car and took off. Myers continued his shooting rampage in Delaware County on Interstate 71 where he first began shooting at southbound travelers, and then eventually at law enforcement who descended on the scene to protect the community. Bullets were inches from harming and killing innocent civilians and law enforcement.
