Fresh produce from farms across central Ohio is within reach for residents who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services is reminding SNAP recipients that their Ohio Direction Cards can be used at participating farmers’ markets, including markets in Delaware, Westerville and Worthington.
“Access to nutritional food is a critical component of SNAP,” ODJFS Director Matt Damschroder said. “Farmers’ markets are a great way to celebrate fresh foods, while supporting local agriculture.”
How purchases work
Participating markets generally display signs showing that they accept SNAP, electronic benefit transfer cards or the Ohio Direction Card. At most markets, shoppers use their Direction Card to purchase tokens at a designated location. Those tokens can then be spent with participating vendors on SNAP-eligible foods.
All three markets serving the 1808Delaware viewing area are also designated Produce Perks locations:
Main Street Delaware Farmers’ Market
The Main Street Delaware Farmers’ Market is held along Sandusky and Williams streets in downtown Delaware. The market is open Saturdays from 9:00 AM to noon through October 31.
Westerville Farmers’ Market
The Westerville Farmers’ Market takes place at 240 S. State St. in Uptown Westerville. It is open Saturdays from 9:00 AM to noon through September 26.
Worthington Farmers’ Market
The outdoor Worthington Farmers’ Market is located at 646 High St. The market operates Saturdays from 8:00 AM to noon through October 31.
