As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, Delaware is preparing for an Independence Day celebration rooted in hometown tradition and community support.
The City has announced that its annual fireworks fundraising campaign has reached its $25,000 goal, ensuring that residents and visitors can gather Saturday, July 4, for a full day of patriotic events, from the morning parade to the evening concert and fireworks finale. The milestone gives this year’s celebration added weight. Across the country, communities are looking back on 250 years of American history. In Delaware, that reflection will take familiar form: families lining Sandusky Street, music filling the Ohio Wesleyan University campus, and fireworks lighting the sky over the city.
Sponsors Help Keep The Tradition Going
The fireworks campaign was made possible through support from local businesses and community partners. City funds will cover essential services tied to the day’s events, including public safety, sanitation, and traffic control.
Mayor Carolyn Kay Riggle said the celebration remains one of the City’s annual highlights.
“This celebration is one of the highlights of our year, and we’re incredibly thankful for the sponsors and community partners who help make it possible,” Riggle said. “As our nation commemorates 250 years of independence, events like this remind us of the importance of community, civic pride, and the traditions that bring generations together.”
A Full Day Of July 4 Events
The celebration begins at 11:00 AM with the July 4 Parade. The parade will step off from the Delaware County Fairgrounds’ main gate on Pennsylvania Avenue, travel down Sandusky Street through historic downtown, continue to Wilmer Street, and conclude at South Henry Street. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early for the best viewing locations.
At 7:30 PM, the Central Ohio Symphony will return for its outdoor concert on the Phillips Glen lawn west of Selby Stadium on the Ohio Wesleyan University campus. Guests may bring lawn chairs or blankets for the performance.
The day will close at 10:00 PM with Delaware’s fireworks finale. The show will launch from the City’s Cherry Street property, with ideal viewing areas along Henry Street and the OWU athletic fields.
A Community Effort
