Special to 1808Delaware from the City of Delaware

The City of Delaware is replacing a water main along Franklin Street, between Park Avenue to Bernard Avenue, which will improve water pressure and fire prevention in the area and reduce water main breaks.

The work will last through May 13.

The older 4-inch line is being replaced with a new 6-inch line for better fire flow and dependability. More fire hydrants are being added on Washington St. and Franklin St. The work is being coordinated with ongoing storm sewer improvements in the area. The final steps will be asphalt and turf restoration.

Water service interruptions and boil orders will be necessary, and notices will be made 24-hours in advance to the affected residents. After the new water line is installed and placed into service, pavement and turf restoration will take place.

Are residents may experience road closures, traffic delays, restricted street parking and increased noise during regular business hours. Appropriate road closure signage and related traffic control devices will be in place. The City will make every effort to provide 24-hours advance notice of any non-emergency water shut down, but residents may experience short periods without water service.

Public questions may be directed to the Public Utilities Department, 740-203-1904.
