The City of Delaware is pleased to announce the appointment of Sandra Pereira as its new Director of Planning and Community Development.
Pereira, who has spent the past 20 years in planning department roles within the City of Beavercreek, Ohio, brings an impressive background in urban planning, land use development and community engagement to the position. As the director, Pereira will play a pivotal role in shaping Delaware’s physical landscape and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sandra to our team,” said City Manager Tom Homan who made the appointment. “Her track record of successful urban planning initiatives and commitment to thoughtful growth and innovation align perfectly with our city’s values. I am confident that Sandra will lead us in creating a future of which our residents will be proud.”
In the Dayton suburb of Beavercreek, Pereira has been City Planner for four years after serving as associate planner for 12 years. She worked with community leaders, citizens, city officials, and development professionals on a variety of projects including several office uses in support of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, a 120-bed hospital, and a 72-acre lifestyle center. She was also successful in optimizing the application process for zoning permits and development review. She started her career with the City as a code enforcement officer.
“I am honored to join the city of Delaware and look forward to working collaboratively with city officials, community members, and local businesses,” Pereira said. “My goal is to build upon the City’s strength as a thriving community to ensure that Delaware continues to grow responsibly while maintaining its unique identity.”
The appointment caps a nationwide search that began after former director Dave Efland departed for an opportunity with the City of Westerville. Pereira emerged from a field of three finalists following meetings with City department heads, one-on-one meetings with the manager, and introductions to City Council members.
Pereira will start September 18 with an annual salary of $125,000.
